Education is key: PM
PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has encouraged graduating students of Pangia Secondary School in Southern Highlands to complete their education and not get married early.
Mr O’Neill was speaking at the 34th grade 10 and 8th grade 12 graduation ceremony of the school yesterday.
He said the students were responsible for their own future and their families and the community depended on them.
“The challenge for you is to get educated and don’t listen to other people with other bad motives and minds to spoil you,” Mr O’Neill said.
“Don’t boast — let your hard work in school and the academic results do the hard work and talking for you.
“The knowledge and education you get will improve you and your families’lives.
“Why do you think your parents and relatives are here for your graduation?
“It is because their hopes are on you so don’t let them down.”
He urged the students not to take their study and education for granted as life was not easy.
“I want to remind you that it gets harder,” Mr O’Neill said. “Through education, you can be able to achieve success.
“Don’t join groups and people who chew betelnut or drink or get married early.
“These things will come to you later in life.
He said that the government and their parents were investing in their education because their future and that of the community rested with them.
“You have to study hard and do not let us and your parent’s hopes down,” Mr O’Neill said.
“The community and our parents rely on you and look up to you as future leaders.
“Education will get you a good life.”
