Alotau Police have confirmed yesterday’s reign of terror on the town by criminals.
Provincial Police Chief Bayagau, who was almost shot, confirmed that the criminals were led by notorious gang leader Tommy Maeva Baker.
Police killed one of Baker’s lieutenants in the shootout.
He confirmed that 7 police houses were burnt to the ground and several of his policemen were wounded in the shootout.
He confirmed that Bobona Supermarket was raided and an ATM stolen by the criminals, who were described as high on alcohol, drugs, heavily armed and dangerous.
Mr Bayagau ordered the town into lockdown while police officers’ families are being moved to secure locations.
