An Engan man is in remand at the Bomana jail for allegedly chopping off the head of a woman at Morata, in Port Moresby.

The accused, Baddy Ben, 24, from Kapal village in Laiagam, Enga Province, has appeared at the Waigani Committal Court on the wilful murder of Lyn Pasul.

Police reports showed that Mr Ben was alleged to be the last person who was seen with the deceased near some shrubs used as public toilet at Morata’s community hall last year on July 18.

It was at that location where the accused, who was drunk, had sex with the deceased.

The court heard that after the ordeal, the deceased asked Mr Ben to pay her some money but he refused.

As he was intoxicated at the time, he allegedly took out a knife and stabbed Ms Pasul on her neck, causing her to die instantly from her wound.

Witness’s reports from police indicated that shortly after the accused left the shrubs, the woman’s beheaded body was found lying on the grass.

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar said that the prevalence of crimes committed through the use of knives is becoming prevalent in societies.

He added this is the same for alcohol-related violence.

He adjourned the matter to February 8.

This is to allow police to complete their investigation before he makes a ruling on the case.
