THE additional police manpower sent to Milne Bay province is to support Alotau police in the hunt for the gang associated with leader Tommy Baker.

Police Commissioner Gari Baki said the borders will be closely monitored, with the possibility of a helicopter also providing additional aerial surveillance of the province and its borders.

“Our aim now is to ensure all possible escape routes are closed and we capture the gang,” he said.

“Additional ammunition have been given to the police and they are more than capable to handle any situation.

“We have advised the provincial police commanders in Northern province, Morobe province, and NCD/Central command to maintain their police presence,” Mr Baki said.

“They will ensure all boats going in and out are monitored.

“The idea of having to interview all known associates of the gang who have been recaptured will be looked at, but for now we have already maintained our border patrol.

“The water police have also come on board to help with two boats expected to be in the province soon.”
