A 49th MINUTE goal from a header by Hekari United FC’s striker Kolu Kepo saw them surviving a strong 1-0 contest against Port Moresby United FC in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League southern conference round four main game on Saturday.
In front of a good turnout at Sir John Guise Stadium, both sides managed to patiently await the match kick off at 5pm and both teams kept everyone on their toes. It was a close game-finish with a class of soccer action from both teams and several miss goal scoring opportunities.
The Kepo brothers Kolu and Ati with the competitive back up from Solomon Islands recruit Gibson Daudau, skipper David Muta, Nathan James and Koriak Upaiga kept Port Moresby United FC’s goal keeper Andrew Aopi and fellow defenders busy.
Aopi’s acrobatic goal saving attempts was well supported by defenders Junior Sasu, Ben Idauman, Pokana Mea and Kenneth Tingut.
Kolu Kepo’s goal came from a target cross kick by Daudau before he (Kolu) leaped high over couple of defenders to find the net.
Despite the goal scored, Port Moresby United FC regrouped and started pushing forward with a lot of determination and coordination plays to keep the conference’s front runners in-check in defence. Injuries swayed both ways which include the Red’s outfit skipper David Muta popping a suspected knee injury.
Late contacts in contesting for the ball by players from teams resulted in yellow cards served by match referee David Yareboinen.
