Nature Park plans bigger excursions
Port Moresby Nature Park’s Education Department is preparing for an even bigger and better School Excursion Program this year with the launch of their new school excursion program.
This year the new programs will comprise of Grade level school excursion programs that support teacher learning outcomes plus four new themed months; ‘Wild for Wildlife’ in March, ‘Environment& Me’ in June, ‘Culture Connects’ in August and ‘Beasts with Bites’ in November. The Park will also be rolling out programs across each school holiday periods that will appeal to all ages.
Since its introduction in 2013, the Nature Park school excursion has reached over 90,000 students. This year over 24,000 students are expected.
and programs will be delivered by the Park’s qualified teachers.
Port Moresby Nature Park’s Life Sciences Manager, Ishimu Bebe, said; “We are excited about delivering new programs in 2019 that are aimed at making learning more fun and interactive.” He further stated that, “Our education programs are designed to assist teachers and students.”
It is believed that Port Moresby Nature Park currently operates the only structured schools-excursion program within PNG. In 2018, the Nature Park was awarded a prestigious International Zoo Educators Award from the Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia for its conservation programs ‘City Kids Don’t Eat Bush meat’, ‘Don’t buy native animals as pets’, and ‘Lukautim bilus bilong yu.’
The schools education program at Port Moresby Nature Park is supported in part by ExxonMobil, NCDC, Zoos Victoria, The National, Ela Motors and the United Nations Development Programme.
Port Moresby Nature Park is PNG’s leading attraction dedicated to inspiring in others the guardianship of PNG’s unique natural environment. Over 145,000 guests will visit the Park in 2019.
