Okapa district hospital rehabilitation plan
BY ISAAC NICHOLAS
OKAPA District Hospital will be considered in the K100 million allocated for district hospital rehabilitation in this year’s budget, says Health Minister Sir Puka Temu.
He said this in response to Member for Okapa, Saki Hacky Soloma who said that the district hospital had no power, thus forcing staff not to turn up for work and also the hospital could not store medicines because of the power issues. “Does the minister have plans to rehabilitate each district hospital and can he look at Okapa? Because we have the rural electrification program to be launched by the Prime Minister. “Does the minister have plans and can he take Okapa district hospital on board?” Mr Soloma said.
Sir Puka said he had worked at Okapa district hospital as a young doctor.
“Once upon a time it was a thriving district in terms of health and agriculture and many others so over the years and with the reforms provincial governments came, many of the governments forget about the districts so under the leadership of the Prime Minister, he not only brought the districts to a different level but he also provided funding as well,” Sir Puka said
“This year under the district hospital project through the support of the Planning Minister and the Prime Minister we have secured K100 million for district hospital rehabilitation.
“I can assure the Member and the people of Okapa that we will consider Okapa, to put back the once state-of-the-art Okapa district hospital and we will be proud to support you.”
He also took the opportunity to thank MPs for their support to health in rural areas.
