A police officer and a soldier have been charged with one count each of occasioning bodily harm under section 340 of the PNG Criminal Code Act.

Both men were charged after assaulting a victim at a night club in Port Moresby on February 16 in the early hours of the morning.

According to police, the victim had gone to use the toilet and was at the urinal when the police officer approached the victim and touched his private part.

The victim pushed the man’s hands away.

This is when the soldier out of nowhere, threw a punch and hit the victim on the cheek.

Both men than got into an altercation with the victim before the victim managed to report the incident to the club management and the police at the Gordon police station.

Police then went to the club and arrested the men.

They were taken to the police station, interviewed and charged.

The police officer is a constable and is from Chimbu Province.

While the soldier is from East Sepik and is a private in the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF).
