Alo United shock Maclaren with 2-0 win

ALO United surprised Maclaren FC 2-0 in the Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) pre-season competition that got underway at the Bisini Football Park on Sunday.
The match attracted a good number of soccer enthusiasts who kept on cheering their teams until full time.
In the end, it was Alo United who proved the better side to run away with the win.
Alo United is comprised of youths from Alotau and has been competing in the competition for some time now.
They are also hopeful of making it to the premier division when the season proper competition gets underway.
On Sunday, Maclaren, filtered with a number of experienced players, were forced to dig deep and their match fitness was telling, leading to their opponents capitalising on.
Alo United did not waste time in finding the back of the net by the eighth minute through Kingsley David for the first goal.
And with further attempts by midfielder Mave Mickey and Gilford Jimmy going astray, Maclaren kept them at bay to go to the break a goal down.
Maclaren were desperate and came close twice with Darren Elipas failing both chances miserably.
However when Alo United had their chance, they made good use when midfielder Clement Raymond sealed the match with the winner to wrap up the match in their favour.
Association president John Wesley Gonjuan said it was time for new teams to take the field and give the other teams a tough challenge.
“The season proper will hopefully start on June at this stage.” Gonjuan said.
He further added that they also have the PMSA Easter Cup challenge.
Gonjuan expects this challenge to lure more teams, both new and old to participate in the challenge.
The pre-season challenge has 25 teams participating.
The teams are Mariners, Mungkas, Erima Fly Overs, Morobe United, Yamaros, Alo United, UIFC, Haraga, PS Rutz , Gurupweu, Maclaren, Yarangs, Bismarck, Seeadler, Elanese, Keleiruna, Blue Kumuls, Mana, Solomon United, City Strikers Academy, Defense, Murat, DBTI Saints, FC Genesis and Leilam FC.
