A Chinese and Bougainvillean joint venture company has opened a brand new supermarket in Buka town.
The grand opening and blessing of the New Household Supermarket took place last Thursday.
The supermarket is co-owned by Kokopo-based Echo Trading, a Chinese business firm and Buka-based Pemana Limited, owned by the Semoso family of Malasang, Buka Island.
Lynah Semoso, who represented the joint venture, said all the arrangements and paper work for the joint venture dates back to 2012, admitting it was not an easy journey for the business setup. She said at last the business partners managed to pull this through with the grand opening of their new supermarket.
ABG member for Tsitalato and Pemana Ltd owner Fidelis Semoso said he was very happy to represent his family on this big occasion reminding Bougainvilleans that with the absence of impact projects like mining and agriculture, joint venturing with other businesses is the way forward to grow the economy, broaden the tax base and tax opportunities so that government can bring in services.
“We can’t develop our place if we continue to wait for unwilling, undecided resource owners who can’t make sound decisions to get in investors and help our government.
“We need to get Bougainville moving again. We cannot continue to sit around and wait for things to happen,” Mr Semoso said.
He said the initiative took them almost one year and this is the first joint venture in Bougainville.
