Already a new song of celebration is weaving through the rural communities of Nenmutka/Kadaulung in the Inland Baining LLG, Gazelle district.
The song of happiness is easing nightmares in crossing the mighty Nenmutka river, that connects to the mighty Warangoi and out at the South Coast, near Kambubu.
The hope of the people of Nenmutka, Kadaulung No 1 and Kadaulung No 2 in getting over the fearsome Nenmutka river during heavy rain without fear of being carried away in the floods would soon be a reality.
The oil palm developer in the area has already indicated plans to build a K1.6 million bridge to connect these rural villages with neighbouring Rabata, Rieit, Viviran and Gaulim who also access this route.
East New Britain Palm Oil Limited (ENBPOL) said yesterday it will build a bridge over the Nenmutka river not only for smooth operations to its other plantations but also provide a service to the local communities.
Chief executive officer for ENBPOL EK Tan was on site yesterday to see technical officers who were collecting final data before putting a design for the bridge.
He said work on the bridge should start this month.
Boisen Waninara, a local from Kadaulung said the plan by the company to build a bridge was welcoming news for the people.
He said the people have not seen a bridge over the Nenmutka river for over 60 years and have suffered during bad weather.
He said the river stopped people from going to school, accessing basic health and other services during floods.
The project is from the ENBPOL’s pockets and is part of a community service to the surrounding areas.
