Man gets 15 years of arson and murder

A man from Madang has been found guilty of burning down seven houses in Madang that resulted in the death of a five-year-old boy three years ago.
Justice George Manuhu, who sat at a National Court circuit in Madang, found the accused Alois Kamod guilty on seven counts of arson last Friday and jailed him for 15 years.
The court heard that Kamod led a group of men who decimated a hamlet and burned down and in the process killed a five-year old boy and threw his body into the fire.
The burning took place after a fight where the prisoner’s two brothers were attacked and injured with bush knives.
Kamod pleaded guilty but the court found that his story was a lie.
The sentences for the seven counts ranged from three years to 15-years.
Justice Manuhu ordered the prisoner to serve the sentences concurrently, thus Kamod will serve 15-years at Beon jail in Madang.
