NCDABA finals underway
The National Capital District Armature Basketball Association is set for its finals starting this weekend.
NCDABA competition manager Silas Nicky said it was a hectic 2018-2019 season for NCDABA especially when the court was in disarray with the surrounding fences and courts all vendalised but to get the game off the ground was a satisfying feeling.
Nicky said despite few problems faced during the season, he praised his hard working committees including referees director Sleeve Mohu and wife Emily Koivi, Bernard Elavo and current national including player Betty Angula, Moses Lune, Marca Muri, the referees and the bench officials for making their time available to run the games.
Nicky also thanked the major sponsors Kutubu Security Service and Hekari Holdings particularly John Kapi Natto and his wife Vonnie for the support they had given to all sports in the country.
“We truly take our hat off to John and his wife Vonnie for the never ending support they have given to us. Not only that, they have supported other sports and for them to step in to assist NCDABA despite not getting support from NCD Governor or any corporate organisations for that matter. We are now in the stage to complete our finals this weekend,” Nicky said.
Nicky said NCDABA is the biggest basketball association in the country with ten clubs fielding in players in the under 12, 15, 18 and open division.
“Every weekend we see these kids coming so early just to play the game they all love and it motivates some of us to help and ensure these children enjoy their game during the weekends,” Nicky said.
Nicky said Sports was the only tool that can bring change into the community, society and country as whole and he is proud that NCDABA has taken that initiative to include children under the age of 12, 15 and 18 participating in the competition.
“NCDABA would like to extend special thank you to all the existing clubs’ sponsors, management and its respective players for making this year a wonderful year of basketball and is looking forward to the semi and grand final this weekend,” Nicky said.
Nicky said all the games had to squash in because time wasn’t on their side. “We have PMBL players also participating and with PMBL starting this month, the sponsor felt it was better to push in the finals early so clubs can and sponsors can concentrate on PMBL,” Nicky said.
