Nova gunning to retain Kapua Cup in Capital Rugby Union

Big runs, big hits, and some good but serious rugby will be on show at the Bava Park in Port Moresby when the Capital Rugby Union competition enters its fourth round of competition.
In the premier games tomorrow, old rivals Moni Plus Nova and Wanderers are set to ignite some fireworks in the annual Felix Kapua (FK) Cup.
The Wanderers snatched it from Moni Plus Nova in a nerve-wrecking battle in 2018.
However, Nova have the talents who are ready and capable of taking back from their rivals.
The current standing – 2013: Wanderers, 2014: Nova, 2015: not played due to Pacific Games, 2016: Wanderers, 2017: Nova, 2018: Wanderers
Nova club team manager Dr Kapua Kapua said they are definitely gunning to get it back.
“Since the first FK Cup in 2014, the wins are at two apiece. (In 2015, it was not played due to the Pacific Games). The loss last year to Wanderers have got the boys buzzing,” he said.
“Douglas Guise and Cecil Davani are back in the team and will be assisting skipper Alvin Fae to lead the boys.”
Their young guns that have graduated from U23 into the senior ranks have been picking up some good form and will be out to show their worth and claim their first FK Cup.
They are backs Radley Barai, Ope Kende, Julius Tomati and forwards Max Mondia, Kurt Saulep and Christopher Heni.
However, Pettowa Paraka (former Queensland Reds and Junior Wallabies) may be taking the field again after last week’s performance against Harlequins. His younger brother Devontay is also muscling up at No. 8 and is also a talent to follow.
“The men are training hard for the match and head coach Ako Toua is having a hard time selecting his squad with all putting in big plays for spots. But we may be missing one of our leading stars in Paraka Nii on disciplinary grounds but apart from that we ready to go,” Kapua said.
In the women’s division, Novettes are focused on taking out Wanderers to show the courage of making it to the top of the competition table.
They are in second spot and will not take it easy on a most improved Wanderers side.
Meanwhile Gangloff University Piggies who have crept to the front of the CRU table will take on a fittingly well-mannered Crusaders before the FK cup on Saturday.
On Sunday, Valley Hunters, meet CRU reigning champions Brothers in what will be a powerhouse game to watch, and LCR Juggernauts will prey on the mistakes of already feared Harlequins to top off an exciting weekend of rugby at the Bava Park in Port Moresby.
