FORMER chief executive officer of Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) has been described as a “true, amazing leader”.

During a small farewell ceremony last Friday, the PMGH administration staff gathered to say they were honoured to work with him as a team when he was a clinical executive director of PMGH in 2014 and under his leadership as the CEO from 2016.

“We women are so privileged to work under your leadership to see all the achievements for the hospital that you have already put in place.

“We thank you for caring for us and our people,” public relations officer Leah Omae said.

He was acknowledged for bringing the hospital up to international standard with impact projects he had implemented such as the digitalisation of PMGH and the first and the only one in the country to have a functional IT system.

Dr Gupta was given notice to resign from the hospital by the hospital board, effective last Friday.

Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS Sir Puka Temu, when asked to comment, said that a directive from the hospital board chairman must be accepted.

“But I have yet to be briefed on the reasons as to why Dr Gupta was asked to step down.”

Following calls by the National Doctors Association for the government to reinstate Dr Gupta.

At this juncture, Sir Puka further asked the NDA not to interfere with the processes.
