Six men get 25 years for sorcery killilng

SIX men have been jailed for 25 years for sorcery-related killing of a man in Madang Province. National Court judge Justice George Manuhu, who was sitting at the National Court circuit in Madang, refused their request for a suspended sentence.
Justice Manuhu found the six guilty as charged and sentenced them to 25 years in jail.
“The offence of sorcery-related killings especially in Madang is prevalent,” he said.
Justice Manuhu said he told the six prisoners that their sentences would act as a deterrent to other like- minded people who try to commit the offence.
He said sorcery-related killings are on the rise in the province.
The six were from Awar village in the Bogia district of Madang.
The six prisoners suspected the deceased for killing the wife of Willie Naime through sorcery, so they attacked him with bush knives, a baseball bat and iron bars. In their allocutus they apologised for their actions and asked the court to give them a suspended sentence and serve their term in probation.
