The permanent appointment for the head of the country’s vital agriculture sector will be finalized within the first quarter of 2019.
This is according to Agriculture and Livestock Minister Benny Allan (pictured.
Mr Allan gave the update on the appointment during a recent media conference held last week in Port Moresby.
He said the process for the appointment of the secretary had already started and an initial shortlist was made to the Ministerial Executive Appointment Committee.
“The appointment committee looked at it and they decided to refer it back to the department DPM (Department of Personnel Management),’’ he said.
“DPM will get back to the process again and do a shortlist and it goes back to MEAC before it gets to cabinet.”
Mr Allan acknowledged the process has been somewhat delayed, but relayed optimism for a permanent appointment to be made early in 2019.
“It has taken a while, but MEAC has advised that the process will be looked at again and it will be started again.
“Screening all the applications again and get the shortlist to MIAC. That should happen early January and February,” he said.
Meanwhile, current Acting Secretary Francis Daink will continue in the role heading into the New Year.
