Annual NCD Governor’s Cup put off

The National Capital District’s annual Governor’s Christmas-New Year challenge is put off for this year.
Port Moresby Suburban rugby league association, the custodian of the NCD Governor’s Cup said in a statement sent to this paper that the annual event has been put off due to funding constraint.
League Chairman Bosky Koke came out publicly after learning that a faction from the Morata off season league which was dysfunctional for the past three years due to lack of proper management is now making attempts to take over and run the league.
“I, as the chairman communicated with the NCD Governor’s office through the project manager and have done all work getting prepared to run the tournament this year however it will not happen for this year,” Koke said.
Koke when asked the reasons behind the cancellation of the annual tournament said, “The Morata faction have not consulted the Governor’s office and have gone ahead to do a launching yesterday at the Kone Tigers oval.”
“This particular faction is not authorized by the Governor’s office and consequently the Governor has instructed his officer Mr. John Makop to cancel the 2018 Christmas Governor’s Cup challenge,” Koke said.
Koke said the other reasons was due to lack of funding, the Governor’s Cup will not go as planned.
“Based on these two reasons, the Governor has advised that the game be put off. In effect, there is no Christmas Cup this year Christmas. If Morata faction continues to ignore and run the competition, then it is unauthorized by the Governor,” Koke said.
ON that note, the POM Suburban rugby league officials have discouraged teams not to register and participate because the governor has cancelled the tournament.
“All 26 teams that had already ready registered with the Pom Suburban League are now asked to contact the treasurer, Thomas Mote to arrange for their reimbursement of their registration fees,” Koke said.
“ The venue at Kone Tigers oval will not be used as it is managed by POM Suburban league and if the governor cancels this tournament then we as a league funded by the Governor will not allow anyone to use the venue to run an unauthorized tournament,” Koke said.
Koke said a formal complain has already been lodged with the police and further that the proper permission must be issued before anyone enters into the venue to run any games.
“ If permission is not given then that would trespass.
Meanwhile NCD Governor Powes Parkop could not be reached for comments after an email was sent to him and his officers regarding this issue on hand.
