Central Bougainville rolls out unification programs

With the referendum less than six months away, all wards, community governments, constituencies and districts in Central Bougainville are conducting their respective reconciliation and unification programs in order to be declared referendum-ready.
The North Nasioi Constituency was declared referendum-ready by North Nasioi MP, Nicholas Darku recently at Toniva after a mass reconciliation ceremony was completed for the four wards of Bava-Pirung, Metora, Kerei East and Kerei West.
“This is a very special day for Kieta District and North Nasioi Constituency as we join the rest of Bougainville in uniting amongst ourselves in preparation for referendum” Mr Darku said.“The upcoming referendum is our only chance at achieving what our people fought and died for so we must all be prepared for it. There will never be any other referendum. We have only one shot at this.” He commended all the ex-combatants, chiefs, leaders and the churches for working in cooperation to prepare the people for referendum.The excombatants at the ceremony used the event to ask for forgiveness from the people of North Nasioi for crisis-related issues and resolved to work together with the chiefs and elected leaders to support the referendum process and the overall peace efforts.The local Church groups in the North Nasioi area also reconciled at the ceremony.
