The Juha Landowners Association of PDL 9 and the chiefs of Muruk one and two have supported the call by Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta and Southern Highlands Governor William Powi, who plan to introduce a bill to amend the Oil and Gas Act so that royalties and other benefits are paid directly to the landowners’ trustees rather than State entities for disbursal.
Association chairman Robert Angamane said they supported the call made by the governors.
“Our project is a new project which will be different from other projects so we are supporting the concern by the two governors,” he said.
“We want our royalties, equity shares and ministerial commitment payments to to be paid direct to the associations or landowners company.
“This is because since signing the 2009 agreements in Kokopo, we have not received any payments promised to us due to delays and tactics deployed by entities which the government control and manipulate.
“We want the government to pay us direct because it seems the money already paid has gone into the pockets of paper landowners in Port Moresby.”
The proposed amendments would apply to sections 159 and 168 of the Oil And Gas Act, with section 170 subsection (4) and section 176 also to be reviewed.
