Over 300 Catholic youths from Manetai, Tunuru and Karato parishes converged at the Manetai Parish grounds to attend a youth convention last week.
The youth convention was hosted by Manetai priest, Father William Satsie, and was aimed at assisting youths tackle issues they face on their journey to adulthood.
Facilitators at the convention came from other Catholic Church establishments, including Lemanmanu (Good Shepherd), Mabiri(Juvenile rehabilitation), Meri Safe House, the Parish family Life Ministry team, Fr William Satsie, Fr Michael Bora, Fr James Soli, Eugene Moses and seminarians.
Fr Michael Bora, who has been a priest for 32 years, told the youths that that at their age there were many challenges that they were facing.
He said they had to be strong overcome those challenges in order to become strong adults.
‘’In order to grow, you must accept yourself and not compare yourself with others — love from your heart,” he said.
Fr Michael said faith, hope and love were important principles in life and good relationships start ed when people loved from their heart and showed appreciation over little things.
During Fr William Satie’s session on environmental conservation, he stressed the importance of taking care of the environment.
He said that attitude was not something that humans were born with but developed as they grew.
“In today’s world, many people have developed the attitude of littering carelessly without any regard for theenvironment’’ he said.
“We all have a duty to stop this attitude.”
The closing of the youth convention was celebrated on Sunday witnessed by the ABG Member for Women in Central Bougainville, Marcelline Kokiai and the parishioners of Manetai who presented items like creative gospel dances and dramas.
