Maryanne Leii from Gulf Province was a proud mother when she delivered her baby boy on New Year’s eve.
Port Moresby General Hospital (POMGH) recorded 26 new born babies on New Year’s Eve, among them a set of twins.
POMGH media unit officer Leah Omae said there were 33 babies born on Christmas Eve and 26 born on New Years day, for a whopping 59 new borns delivered during the festive period this year alone.
“We had a healthy baby boy delivered by a Southern Highlander that weighed at 4.6kg, and another that only weighed 1.83kg,” Omae said.
But the New Year did not bring everyone a bundle a joy, as a few emergency cases were reported at the hospital on New Years eve as well.
Director of Medical Services and Ear, Nose Throat – Head and Neck surgeon Dr Paki Molumi said the hospital received a few patients with stab wounds.”Otherwise it was a good New Year for the country as we didn’t receive any major incident during New Year’s day,” Dr Molumi said.
