The SP PNG Hunters will continue to participate in the Queensland Intrust Super Cup competition this year.
This is the ultimatum given by the PNG Rugby Football League chief executive officer Reatau Rau and chairman Sandis Tsaka yesterday when asked if PNGRFL had signed another four-year extension in the Queensland Intrust Super Cup license after its initial five-year deal ended at the end of the 2018 season.
“Certainly, a costly exercise for the PNGRFL to have Hunters in the Queensland Intrust Super Cup,” he said.
“We are still in discussions and negotiating on all these and, hopefully by end of this month, we will know the status. But certainly, Hunters will participate in this year’s Queensland Intrust Super Cup challenge,” Rau said yesterday.
The SP PNG Hunters have also been drafted in the draws for the 2019 season that was released late last year which also confirms that they will be participating in the ISC competition. But the question of how long they will be participating this season will depend on the dialogue between the PNGRFL and the Queensland Rugby League.
Rau also said that he expected everything to be finalised by January 19 with a CEO’s meeting scheduled for January 31 to put things into perspective before an outcome on the extension of the Hunters participation in the ISC competition.
Tsaka said 10 more players were released leaving a 32-man SP PNG Hunters squad to resume pre-season training starting next Monday.
The squad is Adex Wera, Baundo Aba, Bland Abavu, Brendan Nima, Butler Morris, Charlie Simon, Daniel Tapol, Dilbert Isaac, Enock Maki, Epel Kapinias, Gairo Kapana, Ila Alu, Jack Oii, Jerry Teme, Joe Frank, Joe Joshua, Jordon Pat, Junior Rau, Junior Rop, Justin Yoka, Kevin Appo, McKenzie Yei, Moses Meninga, Nick Hasu, Patrick Morea, Rex Kaupa, Sani Wabo, Shane Haro, Stanton Albert, Wawa Paul, William Mone and Woods Kawage.
