New ‘Haus Win’ adds beauty to KBK mine Site
A mined out area at Ramu NiCo (MCC) Kurumbukari Mine is seeing some remarkable transformation as part of mine’s rehabilitation and development.
One remarkable change to the area was the construction of a new ‘Haus Win’ in the middle section of the Mine Operations and Mine Development Sections which is adding spectacular touch to the environment.
There are also beautiful orchids and wild flowering plants being planted in neatly constructed flower beds to make it more admirable.
The new ‘Haus Win’ was completed recently and is already encouraging mine workers going there to sit down to rest, relax in between their breaks or having lunch.
Mine Development Section Superintendent, Sione Teatutai said his section has been tasked by the KBK Mine Management to do landscaping and beautification of the area as part of the mine’s rehabilitation exercise.
Mr Teatutai said the workers from the Mine Development Section are involved in such activities during time when situation does not allow them to go out to the field to work such as rainy days or when it is wet and muddy.
The construction of the haus win’ began in November a week before the APEC meeting in Port Moresby under the instruction of Mining Department Deputy General Manager, Mr Wei Zhe.
“The haus win is a good place to go sit down and rest and a good piece of mind after a hard days work,” Mr Teatutai said.
“We’d like also to give a good impression to visitors to the KBK Mine,”
he added.
Mr Teatutai said materials to construct the resting haus was donated by Babylon Estates Limited, who currently purchase hard wood timber from the locals from KBK area and process the timber at a site near Ainangri.
Mr Teatutai approached the General Manager of Babylon Estates Limited, Steven Seeto, who generously agreed to provide hard wood timber for free to construct the shelter for free. He even allocated three of his carpenters to help in constructing the building.
