Four villages affected by hailstorm in Lufa district, Eastern Highlands Province, received relief supplies last week from the National Disaster Centre.

In late December 2016, a hailstorm destroyed their homes and food gardens.

Officers from the National Disaster Centre in Port Moresby visited Boigoto, Tagai, Kripaga, Higivavi and Forapi villages in the Yagaria local level government area with relief supplies.

Lufa MP Moriape Kavori accompanied his district officers to transport the supplies and was pleased with officers from the disaster centre for speeding up their efforts in his electorate.

Mr Kavori thanked the government for their assistance despite of the closure of government accounts, and further acknowledged the previous district administration for furnishing the report toNDC.

The disaster centre distributed food items worth K16,000 to the affected villagers, with the local MP giving another K3000 to the affected villagers.

The villagers thanked their local MP and the team.The 2016 hailstorm was the first of its kind in that area and it destroyed gardens, pendant trees, coffee gardens and local livestock.
