Creating economic empowerment is one of the main objectives of PNG Fashion Week.
This was revealed by PNG Fashion Week director, Philma Kelegai during the opening of Miss PNG, PNG Fashion Week flagship shop at the Vision City shopping mall in Port Moresby.
“One of the objectives of PNG Fashion Week was to create a sustainable economic platform and we believe we are on our way there,” she said.
She said this at the opening of the Miss PNG retail shop.
“The Miss PNG retail shop is a community space that supports local talent,” Ms Kelegai said.
“We want to provide a platform where local talents can have the opportunity to be economically empowered.”
Ms Kelegai said the shop is created to provide a safe space for local designers and artists to market their products and a bit of extra money for themselves.
“In PNG, making a living from just your wages is not enough,” Ms Kelegai said.
“You need to make a bit of extra money to help you out with your financial expenses.”
She said the creation of the shop is to help local designers and artists earn a little extra for themselves in a safe space.
“We empower community to support our economy,” she said.
