Gulf Disaster office has reported 15 homes damaged by strong winds and bad weather this week.

According to the provincial disaster coordinator Jerry Hape, there had been reports of one death as well but whether it was related to the wild weather remained to be established.

“Ten houses were blown over in Miaru, two houses in Iokea, two houses in Kinipo, and Baimuru where one house lost its roof completely, blown away by the wind,” Mr Hape said yesterday.

He said that the wind had been particularly strong and warned people to take extra precaution.

Further reports collected from the Gulf Facebook page has also confirmed that another 5 houses has been completely destroyed in Lese Oalai and a teenage boy was hurt by a falling Okari tree while trying to save his small brother.

Water sources and food gardens had been damaged as well. Reports have reached the Gulf governor Chris Haiveta’s office and they were calling on people situated in villagers affected who had not reported to call and give their reports.

A source has confirmed the death saying the woman from Miaru village died when her house fell on her.

A call has been made to the Gulf people not to go out to sea, especially on their outboard motors and canoes for fishing because there was a gale force wind alert from the National Weather Service.
