CENTRAL United aim to improve their standing in Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League southern conference when they take on FC Bougainville in the main game at the Sir John Guise Stadium
tomorrow.

After moving two places up the competition table to third spot ahead of Eastern Stars on fourth following last weekend’s morale boosting 2-1 win of PRK Gulf Komara, the village boys from Central yet again have a daunting task against a team that beat them 2-0 in their opening round clash.

Head coach Kila Babaka made a positional switch last week which proved a master stroke when forward Karo Iga was moved to the backs as one of the key defenders that completely shut down the boys from Kerema, who were restricted to only a goal.

Karo, along with the ever reliable Tau Nius as well as Kawai Vakona and Rohan Roga have steadily progressed to snuff out any opposition attacking raids.

Following two straight losses before the conclusion of round one against FC Bougainville and Hekari United FC respectively, Central have started round two on a winning note and aim to avenge their previous loss to the Bougainvilleans.

“Bougainville is still a very strong team, despite losing some good players over the transfer window period,” Babaka said.

FC Bougainville lost to Hekari United 0-1 last Saturday and will be looking to make amends against Central United.

Bougainville has dropped to sixth spot, just behind Gulf Erema and ahead of Southern Strikers and Star Mountains.

Hekari United and Port Moresby United make up the two top placing on the NSL southern conference points ladder.

“It’s very important for the boys to execute well what they gain during training as mistakes will always set us back especially when you are up against quality teams like FC Bougainville so the onus is on them to perform,” the Central United coach said.

The Central United midfield will be manned by captain Patrick Nota, Sebastian Kopi, Pala Vakona and Pala Vere as the rural team looks to piece back to back wins and remain in contention for a top three finish in the run up to the finals.

On the other hand, FC Bougainville coach David Passam is expecting his team to recover from last weekend’s loss and rely on his captain Abel Redenut to lead from the front.
