Harlequins smash Brothers in 19-0 routing

Harlequin’s plight to win this season’s premiership for the late Ishmael Indepine has started.
And they did it in style too when they thrashed Capital Rugby Union (CRU) premiers Kramer Ausenco Brothers 19-0 in the premier grade season opener at the Bava Park in Port Moresby on Saturday.
The win also breaks Brothers undefeated winning streak last year.
The Grand Final re-match was seen to re-affirm Brothers favoritism tag again this season, but alas that was not to be as the tri colours gave the title holders a little bit of their own medicine to ponder over in a powerful show to let their intentions be known early.
Brothers unlike last season failed to make an impression as the latter punished them with a feverish opening start to lead 14-0 at half-time with tries to backrower Gabriel Biyama and former PNG Sevens international Freddy Rova.
Brothers tried to regroup in the second-half but the Harlies intensity held firm and when a Biyama flick pass to former Agmark Gurias and Wanderers stalwart Billy Torea saw him plough over the tryline, the game was pretty much over.
Former PNG Sevens international Terence Uvau landed two conversions for the 19-0 belting.
Harlies coach Billy Rapilla said he was happy with the win and indicated that his charges handled the pressure better to win the dicey clash.
“It’s a good start especially at the start of the season.
“We haven’t felt a win like this for a long time since 2017.”
Brothers coach John Kautu didn’t have much to say but put the loss down to lack of match fitness.
“Harlies gave us a good hit-out and it’s an eye opener for our players to get their heads back into the game for a hectic season ahead,” he
said.
In the other premier grade match es, Nova nailed Crusaders 27-15 and University Piggies beat Wanderers 28-12.
In the lower grades, Harlies also had the upper hand in their A grade division beating Brothers 5-0, and Harlequins women also got over Sisters 29-5. Juggernauts women had their share of their action beating Valley Hunters 20-5, while in the U-19, Nova defeated Crusaders 30-0, Valley Hunters beat Juggernauts 19-5 and Harlies caned Brothers
14-5.
