JT Super 9s tournament marred by rain
RUGBY LEAGUE:
THE Justin Tkatchenko (JT) Super 9s tournament which kicked off last Friday has been marred by heavy rain flooding at the Sir William Skate oval at Kaugere, National Capital District, over the weekend.
The games were postponed due to the poor conditions of the field.
The U-20 teams have almost completed their matches with two more games yet to be played while the women have five games still remaining.
Tournament director Kelsey Vai said all the games went very well as expected and the committee did not encounter any major problems.
“We will wait for the rain to stop and hopefully resume all the games either today or Tuesday,” Vai said.
Moresby South Rugby Football League chairman Brown Murema said the weather has been unkind in the past two days and that has affected the matches.
“We can’t do much as it is nature but we are confident of completing the matches on time before the senior men’s competition to start this Friday,” he said.
“We will wait patiently and see what the outcome would be but otherwise we are looking for alternatives to relocate the matches to another oval.
“However, we will still have the matches played at Kaugere oval despite the circumstances most preferably we will continue the remaining and the qualifying games on Tuesday.
“The open men’s competition will start on Friday and will go through with all the division grand finals and presentation on Sunday.”
