PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill opened the second day of the leaders’ summit at the Convention Centre in Port Moresby, with a reminder to leaders to be punctual and time-conscious in all they do.

“Our government has invested in education, law and order, and huge investments in infrastructure (that) we are also strengthening foreign investment into the country.

“When we talk about good governance, we need to be punctual in all we do.” Being punctual and managing time was something that must be taken seriously, said Mr O’Neill.

Before the PM taking the stage, a look around the room noted many senior ministers and governors had not taken their seats at 8.30am.

Mr O’Neill said there had to be more emphasis on working in a timely manner. “Talk less and work more. Democracy means respecting each other and giving fair go to everyone in our country. When we are too complacent, we play the blame game. It’s disappointing to see many leaders and heads of department not taken seriously (and) is a serious concern. We are paid to do the job by our taxpayers and we need to do the job, our time management needs to be up to standard,” he said.

Mr O’Neill said leaders could not continue to lag behind; they needed to work together to make a difference.
