Telefomin moving forward despite road challenges

FROM one of the best electorates in the city to a district in West Sepik Province that is building its connections to the outside world.
Telefomin district was the second district to present its work with local MP Solan Mirism stepping in for his district administrator who could not make the National Leader’s Summit that started yesterday.
“We have many challenges in the district but we have also many interesting stories to tell, unlike the Moresby South electorate, we are moving forward,” he said.
“We have four LLGs, 8 wards, and serving 50,000 people, 69 public servants; its challenges include no road networks into the district in 40 years.
“Its borders meet Hela, Indonesia and East Sepik Province.
“Since 2016, the district budget was set at K1 million for administration, K3 million for infrastructure sector, K1 million for economic sector, K2 million for the health sector, K2 million for the education sector and K1 million for the law and order sector.
“From what was received in 2016, it was according to the budget set for 2016. However in 2017, the same sectors and according to the budge we were set to receive K1 million for administration, K3 million for infrastructure sector, K1 million for economic sector, K2 million for health sector and education sector, and law and justice sector to receive K1 million.
“However due to the national election we only received K1 million for administration and K1 million for the education sector.
“For 2018 the budget was set the same with the actual funding received with the law and order sector only receiving K350,000,” he said.
“Our challenges continue to be the fact that we fly everything into the district but we are working on road networks.”
