Call for officers to be penalised
MEMBER for Menyamya Thomas Pelika has slammed the non-action taken against his district treasury officers.
Mr Pelika, who raised the issue five months ago about the abuse of district funds by some treasury officers, had asked the Finance Minister for their removal from the district.
He said for five months now the treasury officers are still in Menyamya. During Grievance Debate last Friday, Mr Pelika raised the same issue saying that the cost of public service was expensive.
“We don’t know are we paying some ghost names or are they working? I want to advise that Minister to look at the public service.
“Everyday people are pointing fingers at politicians as corrupt. “In the private sector they work and get paid. While the public service is too big and unmanageable, some people in the system must not be there, they should be in jail.
“I talked about removing public servants, but they still have not been removed. We should adopt the American system, when a leader loses the election, his whole team goes with him and the new elected leader appoints his own team.
“If they are corrupt, send them to jail,” Mr Pelika said.
