34-year-old to study in Serbia
Moses John 34, a data base and research officer from the National Office for Chid and Family Services will travel half way across the globe to study at the University of Belgrade in Serbia.
Originally from Kompiam-Ambum in Enga Province, John was one of the recipients under the Serbian government’s, world in Serbia project scholarship program. He will be doing a two years master’s program in organisational management.
Prior to joining the Office for Child and Family Services in 2016, John worked as a project officer for children in street situation with World Vision (PNG), after graduating from University of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in technology for communication and development in 2013.
“First of all I thank God for the life his given me and my family for their support. I am blessed and honoured with this opportunity and will do my best to complete my thesis with high grades to give back to those who had helped me in one way or the other to get me this far,” Mr John said.
“I also thanked my boss, Simon Yanis the director for the Office for Child and Family Services for the support given to allow me to take up this scholarship while ensuring that my family are taken care of back home while I am away studying.”
Mr Yanis applauded the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Rimbink Pato for the initiative to bring in such foreign scholarship program to give opportunities to young people to study abroad in various field of expertise.
“This is part of upskilling and capacity building for young people, and having my officer, John being a recipient to study at the University of Belgrade makes me proud, because he will bring back with him new ideas and skills that will help to enhance the capacity of the work he does in the office,’’ Mr Yanis said.
‘‘He will also help share those new ideas with his colleagues for effective and good practice within the office.”
MrYanis said the Office for Child and Family Services is a standalone entity, it is very important that capacity building for his staff is a priority based on the kind of work they do in dealing with children.
He extended invitation to other stakeholders, development and donor partners to provide incentives in capacity building for human resource as these are fundamental mechanism in the area of child protection or when dealing with issues surrounding children in the country.
