Show committee restores confidence

The Mount Hagen Cultural Show committee has set its priority on regaining and restoring the corporate sector’s confidence leading to the staging of another colourful cultural extravaganza on August 18 -19 this year.
The show committee has saved K30,000 from last year show, which will be used again this year.
It could have increased to more than K100,000 had the show committee not undertaken huge costs in areas like Kagamuga show ground upgrading, maintenance and hosting of amphitheatre and the show cup rugby nines competition.
At the second monthly meeting comprising major tour operators and corporate firms, a new committee was put in place to align its functions with the Western Highlands provincial government division of tourism arts and culture.
Mt Hagen cultural show manager John Bonny reiterated the importance of the business community involvement with key departments and schools to ensure that traditions, culture and customary practices are maintained.
The meeting was attended by Tinining Limited’s Phil Kelly, Paiya Tours’ Pim Mamandi, Trans Nuigini Tours’ Pauline Grove,Western Highlands provincial government executive manager for tourism, arts and culture James Wakapu.
The show committee agendas included the 2019 board structure and job delegation, show budget, venue, sponsorship and fundraising, admission tickets, show badges with sing sing and cultural group registration.
Corporate sponsors were also issued certificates of appreciation to honour their ongoing support towards the hosting of the annual cultural event.
Tininga Limited’s Phil Kelly pointed out areas of improvement which the committee through general consensus, agreed on how to approach the wider business community in the province through effective correspondence that will lay out the category of choices from gold, silver, copper, bronze and plate that attract sponsorship.
