WATER is life, manage and use it wisely, World Vision reminded everyone during the the World Water Day celebrations on Friday.
World Vision Papua New Guinea hosted the Hanuabada water and healthy life project awareness campaign as part of the school water and sanitation hygiene (WASH) project at Hagara primary school in NCD on Friday.
As part of the celebration, students, teachers and parents participated in a variety of activities and demonstrations, including hand washing, quizes on food and nutrition, gender and tuberculosis. Awareness sessions on having access to clean water, hygiene and water management were also conducted.
The community WASH project was undertaken by World Vision PNG and is supported and funded by the New Zealand government.
WASH project coordinator Michael Koini stressed the importance of water management in the community.
“It’s a global event so non-governement organisations and other agencies celebrated the day in in line with their mission,” he said.
“For us, we saw that everyone needs water regardless of whether you are a disabled person, child, mother, father, old or young — we all need water to live and celebrating this day reminded us on the importance of water.”
He said PNG is privileged to have an abundance of water resources.
“But the management of water is important and people must know to manage, use, save and conserve water because it’s also reflects on our health and hygiene,’’ Mr Koini said.
He commended the NZ government, World Vision, the Hanuabada community and other stakeholders for their continued partnership.
