Companies told to fulfil social obligations
EXECUTIVES of exploration and mining companies were reminded of the respective agreements they are signatories to, to fulfil social obligations.
Minister for Mining Johnson Tuke issued the reminder to company executives yesterday at a newly introduced mining license presentation ceremony.
Mr Tuke said with the bi-monthly ceremony, they now can be able to ensure that all companies operating in the industry fulfil their social obligations because the social welfare of the very people that owned the land must be taken good care of.
He said there are certain responsibilities towards social undertakings that companies have over the years failed to honour and the ministry would make sure that this is a thing of the past.
“Whether you are a small exploration company or a small mining operation or a large hard rock operation, that doesn’t matter because social obligation has a nametag attached to it and there are certain strings attached that you are obliged to fulfil,” he said.
