TEAMS conducting polio vaccination in three remote local level governments in Pomio district were airlifted by helicopter last Friday.

The national immunisation day for polio will target central inland Pomio, west Pomio Mamusi and Melkoi LLG.

East New Britain health adviser Benedict Mode said teams were airlifted by chopper to the central inland Pomio LLG, were clinics for the immunisation will start at Muela and Mutuve health facilities and their catchment areas.

The team will then travel to the west Pomio Mamusi LLG hinterland and are expected to complete the day’s immunisation program in Melkoi LLG for areas along the border with West New Britain province.

Mr Mode said the use of a helicopter is to ensure vaccines are dispatched before their three day expiry dates.

He also advised that two officers from the provincial health office have been dispatched to the district headquarters at Palmalmal to assist the team there.

The NID dates are from Feburary 25 to March 10 and so far as of last Thursday, the province’s immunisation coverage was at 28 per cent.

Mr Mode said there are 15 out of a total of 32 health facilities in ENB reporting at the moment.

The 32 include St Mary’s Vunapope hospital and Nonga general hospital.
