Testimony of a TB patient
BY GRACE AUKA SALMANG
BEING faithful in taking hertTuberculosis (TB) medication did not only heal her from this dreadful disease but it was the support in love and care from her family that prevented her from dying.
This is what former TB patient Lulu Soini (pictured above) of Porebada village in Central Province shared as a TB patient during the World TB Day yesterday.
“I was diagnosed with TB in 2004 and was put on medication for six months.
“I felt really sick and I never thought I would get this sickness but when I went to the hospital for check up, I was shocked to hear that I had TB,” she said.
As a married mother with two children, she said this was a challenging moment as her son who was seven years old at that time was also diagnosed with TB but she said she had to remain strong for her son and herself.
“During that time, I did not take some medication as I skipped some days and as a result, in 2006, TB developed in me again and I was taken to the hospital.
“I was admitted for two months taking medication and injections every morning.
“Later I was discharged but continued my medication for another six months until I completed my TB medication.”
She was thankful to God and her family for their love and care that gave her the courage and strength.
“It is almost 13 years now and I am TB-free.
“TB is curable so patients who are on medication must be honest to themselves, drink their medication.
“God gave us life to live and care for our loved ones so get cured and live longer,” she said.
Mrs Soini said her son is now 17 years old and both are healthy and well.
