Rumours of Morobe governor Saonu passing away, not true

THE office of the Governor of Morobe said the rumours about the passing of Governor Ginson Saonu are just rumours.
The officers in charge of Mr Saonu’s office told Post-Courier on Wednesday that they were not happy with the false information and described it as “misleading, dubious and malicious fabrication”.
The office of the governor, when asked about a public announcement that was made at the Lae main market on Tuesday claiming the governor died while undergoing medical treatment in Singapore, said they did not hear of it and condemned the announcement.
They said the information was not true and that they will also be working around the clock to investigate where it all started.
“We would like to inform the people of Morobe that the governor is doing well and will be back in the province in the coming week,” the officers said.
It was on Tuesday that the rumours of Mr Saonu’s passing stunned the city. The rumours got the public by surprise and led to the spread of the misinformation like wild fire in schools and other public and government organisations.
Benson John from Enga Province who was also at the Angau Memorial Hospital when the governor was admitted said it was touching for him and his family to see Mr Saonu at the intensive care unit on March 12 until he was discharged on March 24 for medical review in Singapore.
“I personally see the approach of the governor as simple and humble, a simple governor for simple people,” Mr John said.
“He went through the hospital together with the little people despite knowing what he was going through after he was advised to undergo further treatment in Singapore.
“I salute the governor for his trust and faith in the doctors and nurses at the Angau hospital and has made history to fight for his life unlike other politicians I know,” he said.
Mr John also condemned the rumours from the public and called on the people of Morobe to leave behind all their negative thoughts and politics and look at the positive side of life by providing their moral support towards the governor.
He said this is the first time he and his family have ever come across a governor seeking treatment at a local general hospital compared to where they come from – their leaders would not even do that.
“We are from Enga Province but our hearts and prayers are with the governor of Morobe,” he said.
