Taxpayers want roads fixed
The East New Britain provincial government and the national government were taken to task to fix the Kokopo-Rabaul road immediately.
Elias Boas of Raluana in the Raluana LLG, Kokopo district said that the main coastal road must be fixed quickly. He said the people in East New Britain have had enough of the deteriorating roads from Kokopo to Rabaul.
Mr Boas said the roads have been neglected for too long and villages including Raluana, Ialakua, Barovon, Nguvalian, Bitatita, and Raburua are the continuous victims of flash floods and erosions. He said that people are paying taxes to the national purse and deserve better and proper roads.
“Our tax payers have not been getting their money’s worth because we are not seeing any improvement to our roads in the province,” Mr Boas said.
He said ENB has been declared a tourism hotspot, but the roads do not complement this national declaration. Mr Boas said it is always the working class and students who are left stranded during heavy rains because of flash floods. He said that since the last two general elections, nothing much has been done to improve the roads system.
He commended the Post Courier for initiating the Fix Kokopo-Rabaul road campaign and urge everyone to join.
