Saonu wishes Morobe safe festive season

Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu has wished the people of Morobe a safe festive season and thanked them for their support in 2018.
He said throughout the year the province has been faced with difficulties but despite that Morobe stands to gain under his remaining term in office.
Mr Saonu said Christmas is a time to reflect on the birth of our Saviour Lord Jesus Christ and the people must celebrate in a joyful manner and attend church services regardless of what denomination they attend.
He said Morobe is the first province to bring the Good News to the other provinces and this significant history must be embraced by the people today.
He said Morobe stands as the pillar of modern Christian practice in the country and must lead by example.
“Christmas must be taken in the good sprit of worshiping Our Savior Jesus Christ,” he said.
With the coming 2019 year, he said great challenges lay ahead for the people to embrace as development will take full course under his stewardship and he encouraged all people to fully participate and work with him to grasp development in their districts.
“The nine districts of Morobe will be experiencing great development challenges with the provincial government ready to deliver to its people, whether it be in the education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, mining and other significant sectors of the province,” he said.
Mr Saonu said the national government has been keen to deliver to Morobe by appropriating K568 million in the 2019 national budget and these funds will be fully utilised to strengthen all development in the province.
He said 2019 will be an exciting year ahead with the Wafi – Golpu mining project MOA to be signed for the project to go ahead and the provincial government is keen to negotiate more participation and equity from the project that will enhance the province’s financial capacity for development.
“My stance is not to divide our leaders but to wake them up from their sleep. Morobeans have been sleeping too long and now we must take a united stance on the Wafi-Golpu mining project,” he said.
“We have much more work ahead to achieve for the province and thus input by the people will be greatly appreciated for collective decisions that will impact the livelihood of all Morobeans in 2019 and years to come.”
