17-year-old charged for rape

A 17-year-old teenager from Western Highlands Province is before the court after sexually penetrating a six-year-old girl with the intent to rape her.
Nathan John from Ketakore village in Dei district admitted that he intended to rape the child after escorting her home between 7pm and 8pm last year.
The incident took place on Tuesday, November 27, at Pultimb village near Kagamuga Airport in Mount Hagen.
In a statement admitted by the defendant during the record of interview he admitted his will to rape.
The defendant had met Ruth Jacob and her small sister at the market at Pultimb. Ruth wanted to meet with her boyfriend and had asked John to take her sister home because he was a friend and neighbour.
The defendant escorted the victim through the coffee garden and decided he would rape her but had told police he had difficulty penetrating her.
Nathan John upon admitting the offence was cautioned, arrested, charged and placed at the Mount Hagen police station cells.
