BY FRANKLIN KOLMA
COMMUTERS travelling via PMVs from Boroko to town in the nation’s capital are now in serious danger when travelling along this route.
According to statistics gathered from various sources including police, a major mugging occurs along this route every three hours.
The most unfortunate thing about the gathered statistics is that most often, women and young girls are the victims of these daylight muggings.
To get a picture of just how bad things were along this route, this paper conducted a two week exercise in which a journalist reported on the daily occurrences along this route and had disturbing details to report.
It was found that a mugging occurred twice a day usually in the morning from 8am to 9am and in the afternoons from 4pm to 6pm.
It was furthermore found that the criminals committing these grotesque acts were part of a larger organised group that operate between the Two Mile Hill bus stop and the Koki bus stop.
Speaking to police on the matter, it was confirmed that there is in fact a syndicate of sorts that operates along the town to Boroko route.
Eye witnesses have described the muggings as instances when the criminals get on the bus from Koki, identify their victims during the ride and then hold the buses up at Two Mile bus stop where they grab the identified victim’s bag and disappear into the adjacent settlement.
Police have asked members of the general public, especially women to be wary when travelling along this route and to refrain from sitting near the aisles.
