THE time scheduled for the distribution of tuition fee-free teaching and learning component is up but rural schools in Morobe are yet to receive their supplies.

In an interview with school inspectors from Nawaeb, Menyamya, Tewae-Siassi, Kabwum, Bulolo and Finschhafen, the inspectors confirmed that TFF school materials have reached the district headquarters but schools are yet to collect them, while some districts are still waiting for their materials.

Menyamya district school inspector, Soronane Aule, said school materials for Menyamya inspectorate one have not arrived, while in Menyamya inspectorate two, supplies for only one school was were dropped off at the resident of a local.

“The local is charging the school K3000 before he can release the school materials,” Mr Aule said.

Bulolo district school inspector Zurete Mufuanuc said schools in Garaina Valley are still waiting for their TFF teaching and learning materials.

Mr Mufuanuc said the materials must be airlifted from Nadzab to airstrips at Garasa, Bapi and Garaina so schools can collect them.

Out of the 40 primary schools in Nawaeb district, only 20 primary schools received their TFF materials and for the 103 elementary schools, only 10 received their TFF materials, while 93 are still waiting.

Nawaeb district school inspector Willa Gazang said the distribution for TFF materials this year was unfair and not in order.

Mr Gazang said Nawaeb is a large area and spreads from the mountains inland down to the coast.

“Schools are not located in one place so we arranged for TFF materials to be collected at the local level government chamber and not at the district,” Mr Gazang said.

Finschhafen district education manager Simon Shong said supplies for the district schools have been received.

He said they are waiting for schools to collect them from the district headquarters.

“Schools from Burum-Kuat LLG have to foot the cost of transporting their supplies from Finschhafen back to Lae and then by road to their respective schools,” Mr Shong said. “However, it is worth noting that poor cargo-handling has resulted in most of the school materials being destroyed and even boxes are broken.”
