Summit to seek resolution views

The National Land Summit NGI regional workshop from March 14-15, in Kokopo is expected to be attended by various land incorporated groups in East New Britain Province.
The two-day workshop summit will focus on customary land with its theme: Our Land, Our Life, and Our Future, will start on Thursday at the Vunapope Archdiocese Conference Room. It would be facilitated by the National Research Institute in conjunction with the Department of Lands and Physical Planning.
This is the third National Land Summit Regional workshop held for the NGI region after it concluded Southern and the Mamose region workshops respectively.
Highlights of this Land Summit workshop will be looking at these various issues:
Identification of landowners;
ILG/Incorporation process and administration;
Benefit sharing;
Improving efficiency in land administration;
Land dispute resolution;
Improving customary land administration;
SABL – special agriculture business lease;
Conflicting land use and titles/licences over the same piece of land;
Under water lease/water ways; and
Integrating traditional urban villages into town planning/ urban growth and expansion.
These were the main issues that would be looked at had the purpose of this summit was to identify areas that the customary land groups attending this workshop could improve on laws and regulations governing its customary land registration and so forth.
The workshop would also allow its land groups to learn and implement what are the best areas of resolution to take onboard from this workshop as customary landowners had concerns and experiences when dealing with land.
The government wants to resolve these issues and make way for better laws and legislation.
The summit aims to gauge views from the land groups to contribute and self guard themselves from selling their land to foreigners.
