SLUGFEST finals decider is on the cards for Port Moresby men’s softball as the second finals elimination pitch off on Sunday at Bisini diamond one.

Winners in both divisions (A & B) book a grand final spot and there is no easy walk in the park for favorites especially when it comes to the finals.

Minor premiers Lamana sponsored Yokomo coach Hulala Tokome told the Post-Courier despite not being around with the team due to work commitments, players especially senior hands in the team have shouldered responsibility and imparting their knowledge and skills to young talents both at training and during game-day.

“Both A and B grade teams have worked very hard this season. We lost a handful of players and promoted a couple of B grade players to the A grade,” said Tokome when commenting on what it means for the club to secure minor premiership.

He said since reviving the club six years ago, they have been in all final playoffs including a three-time minor premiership coming back into the competition.

“Preparation and focus will be on batting and conditioning to play full seven innings. This year, we have been able to get a variation of pitchers within the team and have six team members take the pitching mound. It gives us the flexibility to rotate players within positions and bring variation to the game,” said Tokome.

Yokomo will be led by their skipper Paul Bogan, Zale brothers Taki and Micah, Kelly Upaupa, Adrian Chan, Clifford Kouse, Mark Tomangana and Clifford Kouse (pitcher). They will face reigning champions Brown Eagles who are keen to stamp their mark given their comeback effort win against Saints last Sunday.

Eagles batting order led by Consie Lumaris, Peter Bunbun, Tyron Paivu, ToAlbert brothers Martin, Bernard and Manu including the support from Graham Kinavai, Pedro Kulukul and pitcher Kolish Pagal on the pitching mound should set the stage for a slugfest.

Moni Plus Gazelle will face off with Defence in what should be another entertaining game as both teams look to end their long awaited drought to make the grand final.

The B grade elimination finals see Anti Pest United Brothers play Brown Eagles and Yokomo face the Aviat Jets.
