Woman arrested for alleged link to Tommy Baker

A woman has been arrested in Port Moresby over her alleged involvement with notorious criminal Tommy Maeva Baker.
The 39-year-old woman from Hiri district in Central Province was alleged to have made several comments about police investigations that had caused friction and distrust among police.
The woman was also alleged to have named a senior government minister as the backer of Baker and accused the NCD Central Command of aiding the escape of Baker in Port Moresby last year.
Police charged the woman with two counts of defamatory publication using a device and cyber harassment, one count of impersonation, one count of harbouring an escaped prisoner and one count of false reports. She was arrested earlier last week and interviewed over her comments made in which time police, especially from the NCD Central Command, were accused by the woman for aiding the escape of Baker. The information published by the woman allegedly tarnished the NCD Central Command and caused friction and distrust between police. Three police officers from the command were allegedly targeted by the woman. Following the alleged comments, she reportedly communicated certain sensitive information to another officer in relation to the Alotau incident and Baker.
In the same interview, she mentioned that she had gone to school with Baker and they had met at a named high school in the nation’s capital.
In witness statements gathered, the woman named a senior government minister, allegedly being the ring leader behind Baker.
She was interviewed and charged. Baker had so far evaded police arrest since January 26 after the second shootout in Alotau, Milne Bay Province.
