Park celebrates world wildlife day
PORT Moresby Nature Park celebrated world wildlife day for the fifth year in a row, attracting crowds of up to 2500 people.
The Nature Park was filled with over 16 conservation and wildlife protection organisations that used the day to share their programs and messages with the crowds, along with highlighting issues faced by some of PNG’s wildlife.
Highlights of the day included animal encounters with lizards, snakes, parrots and turtles; face painting; jumping castles and a variety of fun games and activities.
The emphasis of the day was to recognise the importance of the world’s wildlife and the need to protect it, particularly by putting an end to wildlife crimes such as native animal trafficking and urban consumption.
Park general manager Michelle McGeorge said: “The Nature Park is committed to conservation, education and research of PNG’s wildlife.”
